Hello. I’m Isobel, and I love helping people to find out more about themselves and recognise their worth.

I know that understanding your struggles can be confusing and stressful, but I also know that there’s hope.  With the right support, I believe you can make sense of what's happening for you now and get back to feeling like yourself again.

I work with individuals aged 18+ and have experience of working with people from all walks of life who are struggling with a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, relationship difficulties, childhood issues, work issues, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss, long term health issues, anger, lack of purpose, not feeling understood, cultural conflicts, life-transition struggles and the effects of trauma.

Therapeutic Approach

I work as an 'integrative counsellor' which means that I can draw upon a range of different therapeutic approaches in order to support you as an individual.  This can involve helping you to explore your own issues, history, feelings, beliefs, behaviour, values and worldview, so you can become more self-aware and confident in making your own choices.  Where appropriate and the client is open to it, I use creative exercises or body based (somatic) awareness or exercises to regulate, explore or process what has happened in an alternative way.  Sometimes people come to therapy looking for a quick fix but really counselling offers a place for reflection and to make lasting changes.

You may not be used to sharing your experiences, thoughts and feelings with another person and that could feel strange or even scary at first.  You may feel overwhelmed and not know where to start.  We can navigate this process together at your own pace.  I bring attentiveness and curiosity but you don't need to share anything that you are not ready to share.  My hope is that I can enable you to freely express yourself with the understanding of being accepted for who you are.  You may have questions and I encourage you to ask and share your feedback with me.  Clients have commented that they find me warm, calm and approachable.

Choosing a counsellor can be a daunting task as I found out when I was looking for the right person myself.  It is important to find someone that you feel comfortable with, as together you will create a relationship built on trust and connection.  If I sound like I could be a good fit for you, then please get in touch today.

Breathwork

As well as being a Counsellor, I am also a qualified Breathwork Coach.  Breathwork is a natural, simple and powerful tool that has the ability to transform your wellbeing.  It has a direct impact on the nervous system and is extremely beneficial for people who suffer with the symptoms of trauma, depression, anxiety, sleep issues and chronic pain.  I can integrate simple breathwork practices into counselling sessions or I could provide a whole session or series of sessions focussing solely on breathwork.  Please enquire if this is something that interests you.

Somatic Work

Somatic or body based work is a growing area in therapy.  Understanding how our nervous systems work, what happens when we go into fight or flight and what we can do to help regulate is really beneficial along side talking therapies, and absolutely critical when working with trauma.  I am currently studying a Level 5 Diploma in Somatic-Informed Trauma Therapy and am integrating this into my work.

Qualifications

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor with a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB).  I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an Accredited Registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).  As such I work within their Ethical Frameworks.  This means that I put values such as trustworthiness, confidentiality, no-judgement, client autonomy, inclusivity and equality at the heart of my work.

Further Professional Development

I love learning and am committed to continuing my personal and professional development.  I regularly attend courses and workshops in subjects that interest me and that help inform my counselling practice.
